When Tommy, founder of Universal Tree Care, established his tree surgery business in Totnes, it was from his deep passion for trees, mycology (the study of Fungi) and nature in general.
The team leader and lead climber at Universal Tree Care, Tommy holds the following professionally accredited tree surgery qualifications:
- BSc (Hons) in Forestry from Bangor University, North Wales
- Level 3 National Diploma in Arboriculture from Bicton College
- NPTC tree surgery tickets 30, 31, 38, 39 and Manually Fed Wood Chipper
- Technician member of the Arboricultural Association
Tommy has a strong work ethic, ensures meticulous attention to detail, and employs professional qualified Arborists and Foresters for any work undertaken.

All of our work is covered by ‘Public and Products Liability’ up to £5 million and ‘Employers’ Liability’ to £10 million, carried out according to ‘BS3998 2010 – Tree work recommendations’ standards, and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAW) are strictly adhered to.
All of our climbing and lifting equipment is subject to rigorous LOLER (LOLER stands for: Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations inspections) daily, weekly and by an external examiner on a six month cyclic bases.
